By Ben Harper

The Mediterranean Diet is a loose term that refers to the dietary pattern followed by the people of the Mediterranean region. Every country bordering the Mediterranean Sea offers variations to this diet plan. Usually, the people of the Mediterranean region grow fruits and vegetables in very large quantities, which means their staple foods are primarily fruits and vegetables.

Individuals following this diet do live longer and enjoy a healthy life. Thus, if you are following this diet, rest assured that you are supplementing your life with health, longevity, quality and happiness, all through consumption of whole foods and simply doing something that was intended for us to do as human beings in the first place: eat good food, exercise and run and play and enjoy the sun. We are the same as animals and plants, after all.

You are encouraged to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, high fiber foods and low fat products in this diet. The Mediterranean diet is planned prudently and this is the reason of the healthy lifestyle you benefit from it. The fat burning foods that are included in this diet are responsible for the lifestyle, which is free from any life-threatening diseases.

People of the Mediterranean region are inclined to eat a healthy food. The individuals who follow this diet have less chance of having chronic illnesses and disease. They ate low fat, high fiber and healthy diet that keep them fit and slim. As compared to other diets, this diet includes a lot of bread, especially the pita bread, as long as it is whole wheat and comes from whole grains, not refined carbohydrates like white bread or tortillas.

Dairy products are usually avoided in this diet. However, one can have low fat milk, cheese, curd or yogurt in their diet. People choose water or wine with their meals instead of milk, although dairy products are the primary source of calcium, protein and probiotics. Red wine is most popular since it contains phytonutrients, which is known to be a powerful antioxidan, plus it's nice to be able to take the edge off on an evening with a little glass of red or white according to your taste. It's all about relaxation and healthy living; that's what makes The Mediterranean Lifestyle.
