How Much Calories Do You Actually Need In A Day To Remain Healthy?

By Rick Simmons

One of the fundamentals of shedding weight is to learn how many calories you are eating in a day. A calorie, by the way, is a unit measure of energy. Food can be measured by the quantity of potential energy it can contribute to the body.

Why is this vital?

Because a normal person needs a certain quantity of calories in a standard day. They assert, on average , that we all need between 1000 and 1500 calories in a day to live in a healthy fashion. If we don't have enough we are listless and lack energy. If the calories are not "used up" they are stored in the body, often as fat. To get rid of some weight you should use up more calories than you consume. That's easy enough right?

But there's rather more to it.

It's also wise to establish your calorific wishes currently. Your calorific need is the amount of calories you need to maintain the weight you have now. This may be different for everybody. After you know this number, you may then reduce the amount of calories you are taking in on an everyday basis so you will begin to lose weight.

So how many calories can we reduce while still maintaining optimal health?

Good query.

The best calorific reduction is between one hundred to 500 calories in a day (and not a calorie more).

In some special cases, a doctor may deem a particular calorific number as a good start line (especially if the individual is intensely fat). Don't try reducing your calorific intake below 1,200 calories unless you've got the approval of your GP.

Too few calories in a day can end up in a range of Problems, for example lightheadedness and bad temper. You may also have a tough time concentrating on the stuff you've got to do, as your body will be continually telling you to get additional nourishment because you haven't consumed the minimum amount of calories you need.

Initially, caloric reduction may appear alarming (especially when you get a nasty case of the munchies), but believe me, the cravings for junk food and extra helpings go away in time. Give your body time to adapt to your new daily eating habit, and you will lose weight.

Don?t expect the weight loss to happen in a week or even in a month. Unless you are coaching hard at the gym, the weightloss will be steady but a little slow.

That?s all right? After you start losing weight and your body becomes accustomed to getting fewer calories, you will become healthier and more sexy at the exact same time.

When you set weight management goals for yourself, it?s good to set low, attainable goals at first, so you will be able to achieve them faster.

Don?t set a high and difficult goal at the beginning, when your body is just starting to adjust to your new diet regime. If you cut your daily calorific intake by 800 calories on your first attempt, you may find it very troublesome to stick to your diet on a regular basis.

A 200 calorie a day reduction you can carry out constantly, for a considerable time is better than an 800 calorie reduction you can only carry out for a few weeks before your regular appetite takes revenge and gets the best of you. Don?t giggle? This does happen, and it'll happen if you don?t give your body enough time to evolve.

Sure, watching the calories is a crucial part of losing pounds. But don't just go crazy cutting down on your calorie consumption without understanding the implications. You might be doing more harm than good. As Socrates said... "Everything in moderation."

So what are the best methods to scale back the calories you eat? One way is to head off to little portions very similar to a baby would eat in a day. Sounds mad but the baby food diet actually works.
