Acne conditions can vary significantly. While some are very mild and hardly noticeable, others are extremely severe, and can hide the skin from even being seen.

The most common places for acne to occur are the face, neck and back. Some cases of acne clear up on their own over time with no traces of skin damage. The harsher cases are the ones capable of leaving behind substantial scarring.

Of the three major research studies conducted on onion extract, not one of them has found this to be effective in treating hypertrophic scars. Participants reported no reduction in the appearance or itchiness of the scars after one month of regular application of onion extract.

Vitamin E:Vitamin E is a hot seller because it has a reputation for getting into the skin easily and greatly aiding the healing process. It also has an effect on the body's ability to produce collagen, which accounts for the elasticity of skin.

Luckily, there are many treatments available for acne scar removal. There are various topical creams and lotions available over the counter that can help with acne and acne scarring. There are also a wide variety of mail order skin care products that many have found as effective methods of dramatically reducing acne. These products have become popular due to claims that the product can be customized for each individual.

If none of those options have worked for you, consult a dermatologist about the more medically involved forms of treatment. For the raised scars (keloid and hypertrophic scarring) there are options such as surgery, laser scar removal, and cortisone injections have proven to be effective in dramatically reducing the size and severity of the scarring.

For the depressed or pitted scars, many have found success with Microdermabrasion, sometimes also referred to as medical microdermabrasion. This is a skin exfoliation procedure. Other treatments that have proved beneficial are punch grafts and chemical peels.

Many natural remedies have been used as well, and have shown to be a very viable option for acne scar removal. Though it takes a little research and some trial-and-error to find out which methods work for you, natural remedies are cost effective and ultimately a healthier alternative to chemical or surgical treatments.
